GLADMARR Labs: The Cat’s Meow

In 2024 an longtime peer and friend from my days back in the Phoenix music scene reached out because he wanted to add a new graphic to his business branding. Jack designs musician’s pedals and preamps, and markets them under his Gladmarr Laboratories brand.

I have a healthy stack of books with electronic and circuit diagrams which I felt would be a natural fit. Beyond that Jack and I both vibed on high-contrast black & white graphics - 1980s style xerography esthetic from DIY concert fliers. A final jumping off point wound up being the classic Eveready Battery ‘lightening bolt cat’.

After talking back and forth a few more times, I dug into my ephemera to find other inspiring bits and pieces. Making collage with a “purpose” is a different experience from how I tend to work, but I enjoy having that different kind of goal.
