On View: Collages at Slip Gallery, Seattle

As part of Special Agent Collage’s Collage-O-Rama event in Seattle I will have 10 works on display. Featured will be a survey of recent works, and a few older pieces.

I was asked by the organizer if the works I sent had an overall theme, and if I could provide a title and context for them. The title I came up with was "Relations - Combinations of Chance" and this is what I wrote,

"My art is driven by the materials I use - elements that are spontaneously selected and intuitively combined without a planned outcome.

I don't have a composition or message in mind when creating, I'm just trying to make the work what it wants to be - and I learn that by doing it.

Now that these collages are finished, I have developed a more pronounced understanding for some of them, while some others remain indistinct.

What helps complete each piece are the multiplicity of readings viewers bring to them.

The collages here represent points in my ongoing practice that I believe capture my concerns successfully.”

You can see a fun video of the installation on Instagram at this link. I am also bringing The Seaside Fleet with me - you can read about it here.
